One of the devotions I read this past week was October 9th’s devotional from Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling.
Man, this always hits me right between the eyes. I can only assume that these words will impact you as well.
You have been on a long, uphill journey, and your energy is almost spent. Though you have faltered, at times, you have not let go of My hand. I am pleased with your desire to stay close to Me. There is one thing, however, that displeases me; your tendency to complain. You may talk to me as much as you like about the difficulty of the path we are following. I understand better than anyone else the stresses and the strains that have afflicted you. You can ventilate safely to Me, because talking with Me tempers your thoughts and helps you see things from My perspective.
Complaining to others is another matter altogether. It opens the door to deadly sins such as self-pity and rage. Whenever you are tempted to grumble, come to Me and talk it out. As you open up to Me, I will put My thoughts in your mind and My song in your heart.”
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.” — Philippians 2:14-15
I don’t know about you, but ‘doing everything without grumbling or arguing’ sounds like a very tall order. I complain about silly little things even when I don’t realize I am complaining!
How can I not know when I am doing it?
Because that is my spirit and not His that I am trusting in.
That is me talking it out with myself or others rather than talking it out with Him.
I want His thoughts and His song in my heart like He promises. I am sure you do too. I hope He brings these words and His promises to mind next time I fall short and begin to grumble.
Be Light. Be like Stars in the sky in this warped and crooked world in which we live. Be in His word, be in prayer with Him, and talk it out with Him.
